2012 Sprint Kayak Season Wrap Up.

Congratulations to our Currumbin Creek paddlers who represented us so well at the Oceania and National Sprint Canoe Championships held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith.

Race conditions were trying with weed issues and extremes of very hot and wet and cold race days, but we are tough and resilient people at Currumbin and will always do our best no matter what our opponents or nature throw at us.

Our Surf TID athletes Cameron Green, Daniel and Michael Booth, Emma Burgess and Ellie Leaver, some with a kayak training age of less than 5 months, demonstrated that with a little more experience they will be matching it with the best.

Thanks also to our parent supporters for your care of our young athletes and the logistical help you provide for the Club and our teams. Special mention to Ray Leaver and Rick Stafford-Smith for getting our boats to Penrith and back for us.

Chloe Sterry and Joel McKitterick were rewarded for their preparation and training commitment in being selected on the Australian Olympic Hopes Team to race in Szeged Hungary in September.

How good was Kara Kennedy in setting PB’s in every race and being named on the Aus Para Canoe Team to race at the World Cup in Poland in May!

Currumbin Creek U23 and senior athletes also raced very well with Kenny Wallace and David Smith named on the Australian Olympic Team for London.

Please send any photos you may have from Oceanic and Nationals to Amanda Rankin (see Cc)
